Instant Everything

September 15, 2010  ·  Ray Edwards

Things that are not improved by being made “instant”:

  1. Coffee
  2. Oatmeal
  3. Relationships
  4. Websites
  5. Success

That last one hangs people up. Many people want instant success, but few want the years of preparation that lead up to it.

While we may prefer the “microwave” solution, some things only reach their potential when they “marinate” instead.

As RT Kendall once wrote, “The worst thing that can happen to a person is that they succeed before they are ready.”

  1. Great post Ray. I “instantly” got what you were saying and “instantly” agree 🙂

Seriously though, I think sometimes when we see an “overnight success” we often forget the years of preparation behind it.

My father always said, “Be willing to forgo short-term gains for long-term rewards”.

  2. Fast success? Yes please!

    Instant success? Sasquatch-rare.

I remember an reading an article by Clive Cussler. He said something to the effect of “I worked in obscurity for 17 years before I became an overnight success.”

It's hard to sell hard work and patience as a system in the form of a $2000 info-product. Who's gonna buy that? So everyone is sells instant coffee.

You can drink all the protein shakes you want; your bulging muscles aren't coming till you hit the weight room.
